Our
aims
We
work to:
- create a community where everyone is
respected
- promote racial equality and harmony
- oppose fascism.
Who
are we?
Ribble
Valley Against Racism was formed in 2002. It is broad based and open to
all who support racial equality. Members are local people who live or
work in the Ribble Valley, East Lancashire. We come from every walk of
life.
We
are an independent organization, not allied with any political party,
any religion, any class or any nationality. We work with any organization,
local, regional or national, which supports racial equality.
What
we stand for
We believe passionately in the
fundamental dignity and value of every human being.
We are therefore opposed to
any kind of prejudice against anyone for any reason.
We exist to promote racial equality,
peace and harmony.
We work against racism in any
form and to inform others of the results of racism and prejudice.
What
kind of community do we want in Ribble Valley?
We believe that decent people
of goodwill share some basic values:
- Respect for all.
- Welcome for people who may be different from ourselves.
- Treating everyone with fairness.
- Interdependence, recognising that 'No man is an island'.
- Treating others as you would have them treat you, the golden rule.
- Appreciating diversity and variety, in food, dress, music, language,
ideas.
- Seeking ways to resolve conflict constructively, learning to listen
and understand a different point of view.
- Building a sense of community and belonging for all.
A community based on these values
would be one in which most of us would want to live. We would be happy
to bring up our children and grandchildren in such a place.
