Comments
The BNP was decisively rejected
by the electorate. They won no seats in the NW or anywhere else in the
UK. Their vote in the NW was 6.4%.
This was the first 100% postal
ballot which had the effect of increasing the turnout substantially. Voters
voted for party lists under the d'Hondt proportional representation system.

Comments
LibDems continue to dominate
voting in Clitheroe (although the Conservatives lead in the rural areas
of the Borough and hold the majority in the Council). Labour made no gains
in the town and continue with one councilor. Conservatives made one gain
in the town.
Turnout in Clitheroe was about 15% higher than might have been expected
in this election. That follows a national pattern where the BNP contest
elections.
